The Great Ocean Road

The Great Ocean Road stretches more than 400km along South West Victoria's Coastline. It runs along the coast for the first half and then into the mountains for the second half. On Sunday we took a day trip almost all the way along it which took about 14 hours to get there and back to St Kilda. It was an amazing day and the views were spectacular! Our first stop was at Bells Beach which is thought to be one of the best surfing beaches in Australia, where most major competitions are held, and where the film "Point Break" with Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze was set. We also saw the lighthouse where "Round the Twist" was filmed!! (I think only the young ones will appreciate that one!)
We took a rainforest walk, and also went Koala watching where we saw loads of Koalas but as they sleep for 19 hours a day it was hard to find any doing anything but snoozing! We stopped of at several other beautiful beaches before reaching Loch Ard Gorge which was stunning with huge limestone rock formations. To finish the day we went to the 12 Apostles which is a famous limestone rock formation made of originally 12 stacks where we watched an amazing sunset. Once the sun went down we also managed to see some of the worlds smallest penguins coming out of the sea to their nests. They were tiny and so cute!
We got back around midnight and were exhausted, heading straight to bed! It was a fantastic day and I'd love to do it again!
